Kabul: Flooding after heavy rains in recent days in some provinces of Afghanistan, according to reports, has left “a lot of financial and human losses”.
The flood in the eastern provinces of the country, including Logar, Ghazni and Maidan Wardak, destroyed houses, agricultural lands and livestock, and left a number of dead and injured.
Today, the Taliban government requested urgent assistance from the international community, Islamic countries and international humanitarian and charitable institutions to help the recent flood victims.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a video message that the recent floods in different provinces of the country have killed and wounded a number of people and many houses have been destroyed.
He said: “We ask the international community, especially Islamic countries, charitable and humanitarian institutions to take urgent action to help the victims of the recent floods and not to hesitate to help and cooperate with them at this critical stage.”
Officials of the National Disaster Management Authority says that after the heavy rains yesterday in the city of Pul Alam, the capital of this province, and Khushi and Mohammad Agha districts, the flood has increased after Saturday evening, which has caused a lot of financial losses and a number of people have lost their lives.
Local media quoted Omar Mansour, the spokesman of the Logar governor, as saying that “about 3,000 houses were destroyed and 2,000 livestock were destroyed in Khushi district of this province, and hundreds of families were moved from flood-affected areas to safe areas.”
The Afghan Red Crescent Society says that in Khushi district of Logar province, the staff and volunteers of this organization in the region are busy pulling out bodies and rescuing citizens stuck in the water.
