KABUL: The Taliban leaders are having a serious disagreement regarding continuation of hostilities and attacks against Afghan armed forces amid a resumption of violence after the U.S. hammered out a peace agreement with the rebel group last week.
In Baghlan province, a number of tribal elders and sources said a disagreement has arisen among the Taliban’s leadership and commanders over fighting against the Afghan security forces.
U.S. and Taliban has reached a peace deal which paves the foreign troops pull out from Afghanistan and direct talks among Afghans.
But the militants has been still emphasizing on continuation of their fight against the Afghan security forces, saying that they will not fight the foreign troops to observe part of the peace deal. Such stand by the militant group has brought serious criticism on the ground.
Citing the disagreement, some sources, who wished to be unnamed, said the Taliban leadership had fired a number of its local commanders.
To organize attacks against the Afghan security forces, sources said the Taliban have reshuffled their commanders.
Before the US-Taliban peace deal, which was signed in Qatar, the Afghan, US forces and Taliban had agreed on a weeklong reduction in violence. But the group had stated earlier that they would continue fighting the Afghan security forces.
