KABUL: Afghan troops have launched crackdown operations against the Taliban across the country, killing at least 572 militants, officials said on Sunday.
According to a statement of the Defense Ministry, 572 militants were killed and 309 others were wounded in the past 24 hours of major operations carried out in several provinces aimed at clearing the areas of militants.
The raids targeted the Taliban in Nangarhar, Laghman, Ghazni, Paktia, Paktika, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Herat, Farah, Jawzjan, Sar-e- pol, Faryab, Helmand, Nimroz, Takhar, Kunduz, Badakhshan and Kapisa provinces.
Some amount of weapons and ammunition of the enemy destroyed during crackdown by Afghan forces, added statement.
Also 14 rounds of mines planted by Taliban to target civilians and security forces in different provinces were discovered and defused by Afghan security forces, noted statement.
