AT-KABUL: The Taliban militants have surrounded scores of Afghan soldiers at a military base in northern Baghlan province.
According to TOLOnews, the militants have surrounded the soldiers in Ali Khaja military base in Baghlan-e-Markazi district of the province. A number of soldiers in the province have said that no backup forces have been sent to the area so far.
Baghlan-e-Markazi district chief, Gowhar Khan Baburi, confirmed the issue and said that a group of Taliban militants stormed the military base on Saturday. He added that clashes between security forces and the militants lasted for several hours.
According to reports, clashes between security forces and the Taliban were going on over the past week.
Residents of different districts of Baghlan province said that the Taliban militants are forcing people into paying them usher and zakat. They said that the militants are also recruiting people.
