AT-KABUL: At least six people were killed and 15 others wounded when a suicide bomber detonated a truck filled with explosives in the capital of Logar province on Thursday early morning, said officials.
Member of the provincial council, Abdul Wali Ahmadzai, said the suicide bomber detonated a mini-truck filled with explosives near the Quick Reaction Forces and Logar Provincial Council offices at around 7:00 am in Pul-e-Alam.
As a result six people including three policemen were killed and over dozens wounded. The injured include children and security personnel. The wounded were rushed to the nearest hospital by police for treatment, he said.
The blast was so heavy that all nearby buildings and shops were destroyed. The target of the suicide bomber was not clear, but it seems that he wanted to attack the Quick Reaction Forces headquarters or the Provincial Council building, he added.
Police officials confirmed the attack, but did not provide further information in this regard.
Taliban took responsibility for the attack. Spokesman for Taliban, Zabihullah Mujahid, said the attack was carried out by Abdul Hameed Khalil, resident of Paktika province.
Security forces suffered heavy casualties in the attack, he claimed.
Logar is around 70 kilometer far from Kabul City, but it is one of the most insecure provinces. Different armed groups are active and involved in different subversive activities in the province.
