KABUL: The Ministry of Defense has said that the Taliban have been continually violating their peace deal with the United States and intensifying attacks against the Afghan security forces.
Rohullah Ahmadzai, a spokesman for the ministry said that despite the Afghan security forces had owned a defensive position; the insurgent group is setting attacks on the checkpoints.
He said the militants have suffered massive casualties in the retaliation attacks by the security forces. “The militants recently suffered heavy casualties in Nusai and Wardoj districts of Badakhshan,” he added.
The Taliban spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid said that the militant group has not signed any agreement with the Afghan government regarding reduction of violence but still they have cut down 40 percent of their attacks.
Citing the prisoner swap process, he said that violence would be stopped if the Afghan government met their demand of prisoners’ release.
The Taliban had agreed on a weeklong reduction of violence before signing the peace deal with the United States but after the peace deals signed, the group announced restart of its attacks on the Afghan security forces, saying that reduction of violence and ceasefire would be discussed during intra-Afghan-talks.
