KABUL: Sar-e-Pul provincial council says that the Taliban “activities have vastly increased in the province, adding that the group extort the welfare projects and enjoy supports from drug smuggling.
Head of provincial council, Mohammad Noor Rahmani, said on Wednesday that the Taliban conduct night attacks on the security forces’ checkpoints in Sancharak and Sayad districts.
He said that the group has held training centers in Kohistan district.
“Taliban extort people, they take four million AFS monthly from the power projects. They have hands behind smuggling and opium forms,” he said.
He said that the foreign terrorists exist in the Taliban’s training center in Sar-e-Pul, from where they plan and carry out subversive activities against the security forces.
Provincial council members said that they have asked the government several times to take serious steps against the security challenges, “the government didn’t pay any attention.”
According to Rahmani, the Taliban have the Kohistan district under control for four years, using it for attacks on other northern provinces.
Meanwhile, the spokesman for the ministry of defense, Qais Mangal said that the anti terrorism operations are conducted by the national security forces to suppress the insurgents in the province.
He said that the air force have launched operations to destroy Taliban’s hideouts in the province.
“Our operations have been launched in different parts of Sar-e-Pul. We are in offensive position, the enemy would be suppressed soon,” he said.
