KABUL: At least 25 pro-government public uprising membershave been killed in a Talibanambush in the northern Baghlan province, an official of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said Saturday, adding 15 militants were also killed in an ensuing clash after security forces’ arrival.
FawadAman, Deputy Spokesman for MoD, told Afghanistan Times that uprising members were ambushed by the Taliban in the Arakash locality of Nahrain district on Friday night.
He said the security reinforcements were able to arrive at the scene at around 1:30 am local time after midnight to help the uprising forces. “At least 25 forces lost their lives, as well as 15 Taliban insurgents were killed in the ensuring clash.”
However, local authorities in condition of anonymity said that the attack happened at around 11 pm on Friday night when a group of Taliban fighters stormed a village in Nahrin district of the province, putting the number of those uprising members killed at 30.
The clash between the public uprising forces and the Taliban lasted for six hours, the sources said, adding that the Taliban took all weapons of the forces with them.
The public uprising forces are part of the pro-government forces who fight under the Afghan government’s structure to help the National Defense and Security Forces in maintaining the security of different areas.
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has so far not commented in this regard.
