KABUL: The National Directorate of Security (NDS) said its operatives have arrested the Taliban’s designated deputy governor for Kabul.
Mohammad, aka, Haji Lala, the Taliban’s designated deputy governor for Kabul, was arrested, NDS says in a statement on Saturday.
He was also the Taliban’s military chief for five provinces, according to the NDS.
Mohammad had joined the Taliban through Jabbar Agha, one of the Taliban commanders, and shadow governor for Kabul, the statement added.
The detained key Taliban member was also in charge of a 10-men unit.
After Agah left for Pakistan, Mohammad has been appointed as his successor, the NDS said.
After being appointed, he had left Kandahar province to Kabul, and was captured by the NDS operatives, the statement added.
However, the Taliban has rejected NDS’s report, saying the detained is not Haji Lala, nor he is the Taliban’s deputy governor for Kabul.
