AT-KABUL: Office of the Vice-President Abdul Rashid Dostum confirmed that the Taliban’s supreme leader Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansoor has sustained injuries during infighting in Quetta city of Balochistan.
Sultan Faizi, a spokesman of Dostum, told Afghanistan Times that Mansoor was injured during infighting in the residence of Mullah Abdullah Sarhadi in Quetta city of Pakistan. He added that five other senior Taliban leaders were also killed.
However, Afghan intelligence agency and Pakistani security officials haven’t commented on the incident yet.
This is worth mentioning the appointment of Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansoor as leader of the Taliban militants led to serious schism among the militant group.
It is widely believed that the Taliban’s supreme leader had been killed by the rival group. To dominate the scene while crushing the rivals, the major faction of the Taliban led by Mullah Akhtar Mansoor, succeeded in killing Mullah Mansoor Dadullah in Zabul province.
In August this year, a leader of the Taliban in Quetta city of Pakistan, Mullah Hassan Rohani, said Mansoor was appointed in a session of few Taliban leaders and most of leaders of the militant group are against his appointment as leader. Many of the Taliban leaders were unhappy with the decision to appoint Mullah Mansoor as new leader of the insurgent group.
