KABUL: The Ministry of Defense said in a statement Saturday that a military in charge of Taliban was killed in a recent operation carried out by the Afghan security forces in southern Helmand province.
The statement said that the operation was carried out in the Baba Ji area of Lashkar Gah city, the provincial capital.
However, it did not identify the slain insurgent, but said that he was killed in military operation on Friday.
Taliban did not immediately comment on the report.
Violence has been intensified in some parts of Helmand following the announcement of the withdrawal of international troops from the war-hit country, forcing many residents of the province to leave their residences.
