AT-KABUL: Spokesman to the former President Hamid Karzai, Aimal Faizi, rejected the allegations that Karzai had ordered security officials not to attack a training center of the Taliban militants in central Logar province.
Police Chief of Logar province, Daud Ahmadi, had recently told BBC that he has evidence showing that the former president had ordered security forces in the province not to attack the training center of the Taliban militants.
Later, the confused police chief said that he had no document to prove the allegations, but stressed that the government has not taken any action in the past 13 years to shut the training center.
Aimal Faizi told BBC that the allegations don’t hold any weight. “If Hamid Karzai had ordered the security forces not to attack the training center, the issue would not have remained secrete in a country like Afghanistan,” he said.
He raised the question that if such a training center existed in Logar province, how come NATO didn’t notice it? He said a large number of foreign soldiers died in Logar.
“Although president in Afghanistan is the Commander-in-Chief of the military, he is not directly giving orders to security forces to conduct or not the attacks [against insurgents],” he explained.
Faizi said that high ranking officials in the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Interior and the National Directorate of Security had know about it, if the former president had given such order to security forces. “How did security organizations support this decision of Hamid Karzai? If the claims hold any weight, then the concerned ministers should come with proofs,” he said.
