KABUL: Ministry of Mines and Petroleum says that the practical part of the Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India (TAPI), a gas transmission pipeline would begin in 2021.
The project started several years ago but has not yet completed due to different problems. The pipeline is to transmit Turkmenistan’s gas to India via Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Abdul Qadir Motfi, spokesman of the ministry of mines and petroleum, said Tuesday that all technical, administrative and legal problems regarding to the TAPI project have been resolved and the practical part would begin next year.
Motfi said that another gas pipeline with the length of six kilometers from Jawzjan province to the neighboring province of Balkkh would also begin next year.
The gas is planned to be used for the production of 50 megawatts of electricity.
The TAPI is 1,800-kilometer-long pipeline.
