AT-KABUL: Police have thwarted a terrorist plot while killing a suicide bomber before he could manage to reach the target in Lashkargah city, the capital of southern Helmand province.
Spokesman to the governor, Omar Zwak, told Afghanistan Times that the police shot the bomber who was driving an explosive-laden Corolla-model vehicle. “Therefore, the explosives detonated. Fortunately, neither civilians nor police suffered any causality,” he said.
Target of the suicide bomber was the local police headquarters. But his plot was foiled by the provincial police, the governor’s office in a statement said. Police headquarters was only a few meters away from the site of the blast.
However, local media reported that a civilian was injured in the blast. Officials at the Emergency-run hospital confirmed receiving one injured person from the scene.
This is worth mentioning that at least seven policemen were killed in an attack on the Pakistani consulate in Jalalabad on Wednesday.
