AT-KABUL: Three drug smugglers were arrested in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said Tuesday.
Gen. Ghulam Sakhi Ghafoori, provincial police chief said 15 kilograms of heroin was seized from a wood-laden truck.
The heroin was seized when the truck was stopped for a search at a security checkpoint on the outskirts of Faizabad city, the provincial capital, Ghafoori said, adding that the heroin was packed skillfully.
He said police arrested the driver and another person in connection with the smuggling.
Meanwhile, a car driver was arrested with nine kilograms of hashish at a checkpoint in the Bagh Mubarak area of Faizabad city.
Police recovered an amount of 130,000 Afs from the traffickers, the police chief said. “Possibly, the money has come from drug smuggling.”
Over the past two weeks, counter-narcotics police have arrested six smugglers, including a woman, in Keshm district on the Faizabad-Takhar highway.
