KABUL: The first deputy speaker of parliament says he summoned top security officials to his residence as he was “so worried” about the worsening security situation.
“I talked to the acting defense and interior ministers last night in my house, where I told them about appointing of incompetent individuals in security and defense bodies. The lawmakers will not give vote of confidence for these acting ministers if the situation remains like this,” Mohammad Mirza Katawazi said Saturday.
However, he did not provide details why he called the acting ministers to his own residence.
Katawazi chairs the parliament sessions as parliament speaker Mir Rahman Rahmani is in Pakistan for an official visit.
Islamabad has been hosting Afghan leaders in the past few weeks. Abdullah Abdullah head of reconciliation council and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar leader of Hezb-e-Islami, a jihadi party were warmly welcomed by Pakistani officials before Rahmani.
Katawazi called mismanagement, ghost troops and lack of foodstuff and other essentials in the frontlines of war as the most serious challenges before army and police.
But Tareq Aryan, spokesman of interior ministry rejects the ghost troops in police.
“Frequent intelligence failures and lack of air force support by the NATO troops have put negative impacts,” said Tamim Aasi, former deputy defense minister.
Fawad Aman, deputy spokesman at the defense ministry confirms increase in army casualties, but says that Taliban’s casualties are more.
At least 23 soldiers were killed Friday when Taliban fighters attacked their outpost in the Khashrod district of Nimroz province in the southwest along Iran and Pakistan borders.
Tens of security forces were killed and wounded in Taliban attacks in the provinces of Helmand and Takhar before the Nimroz incident.
