Kabul: The Torkham border crossing linking Pakistan and Afghanistan has been shut down for pedestrians following a clash involving Pakistani officials from the Frontier Corps (FC) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Reports indicate that at least 13 Pakistani officials sustained injuries during the incident, with five individuals transferred to Landi Kotal Hospital. Their condition is said to be stable.
Media sources report that numerous individuals attempting to cross into Afghanistan on foot are stranded due to the closure, which ensued after a confrontation between FC and FIA personnel. The FIA has accused FC officials of meddling in the immigration process, alleging that despite being instructed otherwise, FC staff persisted in their interference.
Following the altercation, the FIA temporarily closed the immigration counter in protest. However, FC authorities assert that they were carrying out security duties and monitoring passengers to safeguard the border. Torkham crossing serves as a pivotal transit point for both goods and people between the two nations. Operations at the crossing came to a halt around 10 a.m. local time before resuming later in the day.
