KABUL: US President Donald Trump has once again warned that American troops could win the Afghan war within days by killing millions across the conflict-ridden country.
Trump made the warning on Friday as he hailed the “progress” made in peace talks between his administration and the Taliban militant group.
“We’ve made a lot of progress. We’re talking,” the US president told reporters at the White House.
Trump said that US forces, bogged down in the country for nearly two decades, “could win Afghanistan in two days or three days or four days, but I’m not looking to kill 10 million people.”
In a similar comment in July, Trump spoke about 10 million casualties but this time he specified that no nuclear weapons would be involved, saying, “I’m talking conventional.”
In that time the government of Afghanistan has called for clarification from Washington over Trump’s statement. Also many high-raking of Afghan current and incumbent officials criticized President Trump for giving such a reckless remark, saying no need to kill millions, but to target their hideouts that located outside Afghanistan. The former president Hamid Karzai even called on the Afghan to averse the US presence, calling on the US to get out of Afghanistan. he strongly reacted to the US President Donald Trump’s nasty statements on wiping Afghanistan off the face of the earth, said, “President Trump, We are the Pamirs! You can’t wipe out “The Roof of the World.”
President Ghani’s office in a statement said that no foreign power could determine fate for Afghanistan and Afghans. The statement asked for clarification from the White House over Trump’s statement.
“The government’s statement was very weak. Why do you want clarification? He claims to kill you and you ask for a clarification from him?” Karzai said.
