Republican presidential front runner Donald Trump on Thursday favored American troops staying in Afghanistan because its neighbor Pakistan has nuclear weapons, which needs to be secured.
“I think you have to stay in Afghanistan for a while, because of the fact that you’re right next to Pakistan, which has nuclear weapons, and we have to protect that. Nuclear weapons change the game,” Trump said during the Republican presidential debate in Detroit.
Last year, Trump had called Pakistan the most dangerous country in the world and had indicated that Pakistan needs to be denuclearized.
“You have to get India involved. India’s the check to Pakistan,” Trump said in a radio last September when asked what he would do if Pakistan “the most dangerous country in the world other than Iran,” became unstable. (PAN)
