US President Donald Trump’s strategy for South Asia and Afghanistan has been ineffective in stave off terrorism and improving security and stability, said Dr. Rangeen Dadfar Spanta, Former President Hamid Karzai’s national security advisor.
“Government has lost control over a significant portion of territory, and I can say that US new strategy has failed,” Dr. Spanta was quoted by ‘Sadaye Afghan’ in an interview with Turkey’s Anatolia Agency.
Spanta asserted that crucial government pillars as a national security priority and said, “It is natural that the Afghan government’s influence across the country, rule of law and lawful governance is very important, but challenges bedeviling those arenas have escalated this year”.
“The US in essence is not fulfilling the commitments it had pledged to Afghanistan. That’s why the Bilateral Security Agreement with the US should be revised so that the security pact is better implemented and US holds up its end of the bargain,” he reckoned.
About peace negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban, Spanta said, “Peace talks are bogus. The government and its high peace council have confessed that. It is regrettably foreigners including Americans, Russians and Central Asians who hold dialogues with Taliban more often, in which Afghans per se who are the true owners of peace talks have no presence”.
