TTP, IS-K major actors of violence in Pakistan during 2022

AT

Kabul: According to Pakistani media, this country has seen an increase in the number of terrorist attacks in various cities, especially along its borders with Afghanistan, for the second year in a row. The wave of these attacks even spread to Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan in recent weeks.

The Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS) announced in its summaries and statistics about the country’s overall security situation over the past year: In 2022, the number of terrorist attacks in Pakistan has increased by 27 percent compared to the previous year. This number of terrorist attacks has also increased for the second consecutive year.

In the annual report of the institution, it is stated: The terrorist group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is becoming a provocative factor in the relations between this country and Afghanistan. This militant group remains one of the main causes of violence in Pakistan in 2022, along with ISIS-K.

A total of 262 terrorist attacks were recorded in Pakistan last year, including 14 suicide attacks with 419 deaths and 734 injuries. A 25% increase in casualties caused by these attacks compared to 2021 has been observed.

During the past year, the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for 89 attacks, and ISIS Khorasan claimed responsibility for at least 23 terrorist operations. Almost 95 percent of these attacks took place in the two violent provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan. Pakistani security forces also killed 302 terrorists and militants during 87 operations against insecurity factors in different regions of this country.

In its security report, the Institute of Peace Studies of Pakistan called the action of the Islamabad government in advancing reconciliation talks with the Tehreek-e-Taliban group as a wrong strategy and noted that the Afghan Taliban’s gaining power in Kabul and Pakistan’s participation in the peace talks with the Tehreek-e-Taliban have encouraged this group to renew Organization and escalation of terrorist violence inside Pakistan.

In its recent report, the Pakistan War and Peace Studies think tank announced a 28% increase in terrorist attacks in this country and a fourfold increase in suicide attacks.

The Pakistani Taliban, which has intensified its operations in various regions of the country in recent months, now threatened to attack the leaders of the coalition government, including the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of Pakistan.
