KABUL: Defense Minister Bismillah Mohammadi held a phone call with his Turkish counterpart, discussing the regional security and Ankara’s support to run the Kabul-Hamid Karzai international airport.
The Turkish Defense Ministry said in a statement that Turkish Defense Minister, Hulusi Akar mentioned to his Afghan counterpart that Turkey had often paid efforts for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The two sides also exchanged views over the importance of continuing peace efforts. Akar reiterated his country commitment to support the Afghan people.
Earlier, Akar said that Ankara proposed to operate and provide security for Kabul international airport after U.S. and NATO troops has withdrawn.
He said the final decision has yet to be taken but discussions are going on with the United States regarding guarding the Kabul airport.
Earlier, the Afghan government had announced that it is responsible for ensuring security of Kabul airport, following the pull-out of American troops and the foreigners can only provide technical support.
