KABUL: Two women of a family were killed when a rocket crashed on their house in the southern province of Uruzgan, local officials confirmed.
The incident occurred late Saturday in Zartal village of the Dehrawood district.
Provincial Spokesman Ahmad Shah Sahel said Sunday that the house belongs to a tribal elder, where two children were also injured.
Sahel blamed the attack on Taliban insurgents, saying that the injured children were in critical condition and were taken to the adjacent province of Kandahar for medical treatment.
Taliban did not immediately comment.
Earlier this week, three police checkpoints fell too Taliban in the Dehrawood district.
Jalaluddin, deputy district governor, said that 11 security forces were killed and another 12 injured in fire exchange with the attackers before the checkpoints fell.
He said that situation in Dehrawood was a matter of concern, adding that Taliban have blocked the road connecting Dehrawood to provincial capital of Tarinkot, causing increase in foodstuff prices.
Dehrawood is the most unsafe district in Uruzgan province. It lies 35 kilometers west of Tarinkot.
