Kabul: British aid to Afghanistan in the last two decades has caused corruption and human rights violations.
The British aid watchdog has published a report saying that the country’s financial aid to Afghanistan over the past twenty years has led to the spread of corruption and human rights violations.
The Guardian newspaper on (Thursday) quoted the British aid watchdog as reporting that the country’s 3.5 billion pounds of aid between 2000 and 2020 has caused corruption and human rights violations in Afghanistan.
In the report of the watchdog of British aid, it is stated that the country’s financial aid is focused on too short-term goals and that Britain has had little influence on US’s strategies towards Afghanistan.
In a part of the investigation, it is stated that the UK spent 252 million pounds to support the Afghan police, which the report called the “questionable use of British aid”; because in this country’s aid, instead of police rights, financial support for anti-riot operations has been emphasized.
Britain has helped the Afghan government with 1 billion pounds between 2000 and 2014 and 2.5 billion pounds between 2014 and 2020.
The report of this British institution is published while the US Special Inspector General (SIGAR) had previously exposed corruption in the process of providing aid to Afghanistan by publishing reports.
