KABUL: President Ashraf Ghani and UK Prime Minister Borsi Johnson have expressed concern over the escalation of violence in Afghanistan, and called for a permanent ceasefire.
The discussion was made during a telephonic conversation on Friday night, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.
During the talks, Mr. Johnson assured President Ghani about his country’s continued support to the Afghan Peace Process, and a longstanding support to the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF).
Mr. Johnson also expressed readiness to work on strengthening regional diplomacy in connection to the Afghan Peace Process.
They also discussed expansion of bilateral ties, according to the statement.
Despite ongoing efforts by foreign countries to establish a ceasefire in Afghanistan, the Taliban are yet to agree on a ceasefire, even did not obey the principle of reduction in violence agreed with the US. Rather the war has been intensified across Afghanistan, where civilians are hammering out between war and peace.
The two sides also exchanged views on the next steps in the peace process and emphasized on the importance of a permanent truce in Afghanistan, the statement added.
They also discussed the global efforts for the containment of COVID-19 and the implementation of vaccines.
