AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: British ambassador to Kabul, Sir Richard Stagg, said that his country encourage Pakistan to support the peace process of Afghanistan.
In an interview with Radio Azadi, Stagg expressed optimism over the peace talks with the Taliban.
This came at a time that recently, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah, said that peace talks with the Talban would be resumed within few days.
Stagg said that Afghanistan’s problems require a political solution, rather than a military solution. “We welcome initiation of peace parleys between the Afghan government and the Taliban,” he added.
He said that Pakistan has also changed its policy towards militants. Stagg said that Islamabad should realize that presence of terrorists in Pakistan can also pose threat to the country.
He added that Britain was ready to convince Pakistan to support Afghan-led peace negotiations.
He stressed that Afghanistan and Pakistan should build an environment of trust and cooperation in the region.
