KABUL: The ministry of public health reports of the outbreak of the new UK-variant cases of Corona virus in 18 of 34 provinces, with Mirwais Alizai deputy spokesman for the ministry saying on Sunday that the most cases of the UK-variant disease were found in Nangarhar province in the east.
Alizai said that the first case of Corona virus was registered in Nangarhar in April. Nangrhar shares border with Pakistan’s tribal regions where thousands of people commute daily.
Kabul, Herat and Kandahar are the other provinces where the new UK-variant cases of Corona virus have been seen, while Alizai warns of further outbreak of the disease to all provinces.
The UK-variant Covid virus was first reported in September 2020 in the southeast of Britain and speedily broke out to all parts of the country as well as to other European states.
Afghan officials now express concerns over the further spread of the disease, calling on people to observe health instructions particularly using of face masks and social distance.
According to public health officials, the UK-variant cases of Corona virus broke out after the Eid festival some two weeks ago.
Earlier this week, Wahid Majroh, acting public health minister had said that the third wave of Corona virus was spreading in the eastern provinces that border Pakistan.
He had warned of the increased of the disease cases, saying that Kabul is now in red position, Kandahar in orange and Herat, Nimroz, Helmand, Balkh, Wardak, Ghazni and Paktia in yellow positions.
Separately, the Indian-variant of Corona virus is breaking out in Afghanistan as people travel to the country for different reasons mostly for medical treatment and education in Indian universities.
The government says that more than 500,000 people have been vaccinated against the virus.
Although the government launched vaccination campaign in March, but people are not interested to receive the vaccines.
Around 66,000 people have been infected with the virus across the country, according to public health ministry who says that 2,900 ones have died.
