KABUL: The United Nations Secretary-General has omitted the Afghan National Police from his List of Shame, the ministry of foreign affairs said.
In a statement issued Sunday, the ministry welcomed the removal of Afghan police from the list of shame, saying that the United Nations secretary-general had included the Afghan police in the list of shame for the presence of children in police force.it cited the UN’s 2020 report which had praised Kabul’s efforts “successful” regarding the children and military clashes, preventing the children recruitment and reduction of violence against them.
“This is a progress and explains Afghan government’s commitment to international human rights values and good governance,” the statement reads.
The ministry of foreign affairs, however, called on foreign countries and international organizations to pressure Taliban and other terrorist groups politically and through sanctions so that they abandon child recruitment and violence against children.
