Kabul: The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has once again highlighted the crucial role of the female UN staff in carrying out the work of the organization, including delivering life-saving aid to the people.
“Female UN staff members are essential to carry out our work, including the delivery of life-saving aid.” UN chief tweeted on Sunday. “The voices of women & girls remain underrepresented in humanitarian decision-making. But when they are included, the outcomes are stronger for all,” he added.
Earlier this week, the UN officially confirmed that it had asked its employees in Afghanistan to not come to work after they were notified that women are not allowed to work with the organization in the country.
The decision of prohibiting women to work with the UN agencies in Afghanistan has sparked widespread condemnation worldwide including European Union, the United States and human rights organizations.
