KABUL: The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has praised the planned reopening of schools for girls and boys across the country on March 22.
The UN Secretary-General called for a “must” reopening of “all doors” for girls and boys to “have an education and reach their full potential.”
The chief of the UN High Commissioner for Refugee, Filippo Grandi suggested that the Afghan authorities should take practical steps towards reopening of schools amid a visit to a girl school in the eastern province of Nangarhar.
The Islamic Emirate earlier announced that all schools will be reopened for girls and boys on March 22 across Afghanistan.
“If the classes are postponed and they can’t fulfill their decision, undoubtedly, it will be a big damage to the Afghanistan educational sector,’ said Zuhra, a teacher.
The girls who were deprived of schooling last year called on officials to make constructive efforts for education.
“Education is essential for men and women. There are some fields that the women can run,” said Nazia, a student.
The Afghan educational sector has faced consecutive challenges even before the Islamic Emirate swept into power in mid-August of 2021.
