KABUL – The United Nations Security Council has announced plans to hold a meeting on Afghanistan, according to its monthly report. The session will feature speeches by Roza Otunbayeva, head of the U.N. Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, and a member of Afghan civil society.
Martin Griffiths, U.N. Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, is also scheduled to present a report on aid delivery to Afghanistan, as mandated by Security Council Resolution 2615.
While the exact date of the meeting has not yet been set, the agenda will include a vote on draft sanctions against Al Qaeda and ISIS.
This meeting comes as the U.N. prepares for the third Doha conference on Afghanistan, set to take place by the end of June, with the participation of special representatives from various countries.
