Kabul: Roza Otenbayeva, the head of UNAMA and special representative of the UN Secretary-General for Afghanistan, convened with Ali Bagheri Keni, Iran’s political deputy foreign minister, to deliberate on recent developments in Afghanistan and the upcoming Doha meeting.
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially disclosed this meeting through a morning announcement. According to the statement, Bagheri underscored that America’s presence in Afghanistan, from entry to exit, has exacerbated insecurity, instability, terrorism, and drug production in the region.
Bagheri emphasized the necessity for international organizations to prioritize the Afghan people’s interests, focusing on security, development, and improved living conditions. He advocated for creating opportunities for Afghans educated abroad, including in Iran, to contribute to Afghanistan’s progress.
In the announcement, Bagheri stressed the indispensable role of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries in fostering peace and stability, alongside the responsibility of Western nations, particularly the United States, to address the repercussions of their actions over the past two decades.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry highlighted discussions regarding the intricate dynamics within Afghanistan and the imperative for coordination among regional and extra-regional stakeholders to support the country’s development and stability.
Quoting Otenbayeva’s remarks, the announcement also outlined a plea for Iran’s assistance in facilitating constructive cooperation among nations and fostering dialogue with Afghanistan’s interim government.
