By Akhtar M.Nikzad-KABUL: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says it is concerned about forcibly deportation of Afghan refugees and expresses strongly its worry about lack of extension of refugee card by government of Pakistan.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi in a meeting with Mohammad Hanif Atmar, National Security Adviser, said that the UNHCR is concerned about recent decision of Islamabad about deportation and lack of extension of Afghan refugees in the country.
He said that UNHCR plans to host quadrilateral session of Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and European Union for finding durable solution about Afghan refugees’ challenges.
He asked Afghan government to seek traditional solutions about resolving refugees’ problems in Pakistan and Iran.
Hinting to dispatching Afghan refugees to Syria conflict, Grandi said that the matter would be discussed in the quadrilateral session with the host countries.
Some reports convey that Iran sends out Afghan refugees in Syria conflict and the issue creates concern of UNHCR.
Some four million Afghan refugees live in Pakistan and Iran and face with various constrains and challenges.
Recently Pakistan forcibly deported 254 Afghan refugees from its soil and handed over to police in Torkham crossing border.
Atmar said that the government is committed to solve the current issue with Islamabad through diplomatic mission.
He asked the UNHCR to hold joint committee about resolving Afghan refugees challenges in the neighboring countries.
