By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: The university lecturers Wednesday went to the street and staged protest against presidential decree over higher education law. They asked for the cancellation of the decree.
The professors called the decree against civil services and higher education law and contrary to constitution.
The protestors marched from Kabul University to ministry of higher education holding banners read: “We don’t accept dictated and unjustly decree.”
The protestors were lecturers from four Kabul universities and some provincial ones, chanting slogan: “This decree violates lecturers and students’ rights. We want justice. This decree is against higher education.”
Musa Friwar, a university professor said that the decree was against higher education law and contrary to constitution. “Thus, we ask for abrogation of the decree.”
He said that the decree had minimized age of retirement for the lecturers from 75-65. He also said that the lecturers with the bachelor degrees who fail to acquire master degree in six years should be dismissed.
“If this decree is implemented, over 3,200 university professors will be dismissed across the country,” he added.
Head of lecturers’ union of governmental universities Taj Mohammad Akbar said that the decree was made based on specific group order, which was totally against the higher education law.
