Kabul: The Afghan authorities on Friday refuted the claims made by a senior United States general that a division of the ISIS based in Afghanistan will be able to target US citizens in Europe and Asia within six months.
“The statements of US officials about the number of IS in Afghanistan are not true. Daesh militants have already been reduced in ranks and suppressed,” Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson said.
He also accused the United States of abetting IS terrorists. “The interest of the US officials in this matter and their grandiosity is aiding and abetting the ISIS rebels, which should be stopped,” Zabiullah said.
Last week, General Michael Kurilla, head of US Central Command, told Congress that “at least hundreds of thousands” of US citizens could be vulnerable to an attack by ISIS-K, which has the “ultimate goal to strike on the American homeland”, the Daily Mail reported.
