AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Daniel Fledman, during a meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif, hopped that peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban would resume soon.
The two men discussed regional security. Feldman appreciated Pakistan’s role in bringing the Taliban to the negotiation table in the first round of peace talks in Muree, hill resort near Islamabad. He hopped that the talks would resume soon, to bring lasting peace to Afghanistan.
Representatives of the government and the Taliban were expected to meet in Pakistan for second round of peace talks, but the negotiations were delayed for unknown time. Islamabad cited Taliban Leader Mullah Omar’s death revelation as reason for the delay.
The High Peace Council (HPC) questioned Pakistan’s sincerity in the talks and said that the country is trying to use Mullah Omar’s death as an excuse to delay peace negotiations.
