Kabul: Zalmay Khalilzad, the former special representative of the US for Afghanistan affairs, said that the US will not resume its diplomatic presence in Afghanistan until the Qatar agreement is fully implemented by the Taliban government.
“Parts of Doha Agreement were implemented, parts are not,” Khalilzad said. “We need to go back and tell the Talibs (IEA) let’s finish the unfinished business.”
According to the former envoy, not all IEA officials agree with girls not going to high school. “Some of them have spoken quite forcefully.”
He added: It is not in America’s interest for Afghanistan to be an isolated and failed country; we are negotiating with the Taliban.
Khalilzad also pointed out that we cannot go to Afghanistan again until the Taliban implements all the provisions of the Doha Agreement and establish an inclusive government.
The former US special representative continued that Washington has not yet found a solution to solve the problems with the Taliban.
He said: “When we closed our embassy in Afghanistan, we thought about what we should do with the Taliban. Even now, this question is raised, should we embrace them or put pressure on them to take the right path in which they observe human rights, girls education and inclusiveness.
