KABUL: The United States of America is standing firm in supporting the Afghan security forces in the wake of peace talks with the Taliban group.
US NSA Robert O’Brien in a telephonic conversation with President Ashraf Ghani has emphasized the early start of intra-Afghan negotiations. “NSA O’Brien had a great phone call with President Ashraf Ghani today to discuss the need for intra-Afghan talks to start without delay,” NSC said in a tweet.
Mr. O’Brien also reiterated U.S. support for a sovereign, democratic, and unified Afghanistan that never again serves as a source of international terrorism.
The U.S. NSA said that his country stands with the Afghan security forces who have made tremendous sacrifices for the Afghan people.
“President Ghani spoke with Mr. O’Brian about the Afghanistan Peace process, the exchange of prisoners, and Pres. Ghani stressed the need for the start of the direct negotiation between the Taliban and the government,” Presidential Spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said.
He furthered, “Both emphasized the importance of a ceasefire for a durable peace sustaining the gains of the past 19 years, and the U.S. continued and strong support for the Afghan security forces who have made tremendous sacrifices for the Afghan people.”
First Vice President, Amrullah Saleh in a tweet thanked the US NSA for his support to the brave Afghan security forces and selfless heroes who indeed have put their lives for defesne of Afghanistan and remain the straightforward partners against terrorism. “Unlike others they shoot directly and there is no good terrorist in their world,” he added.
