Kabul: The US State Department wrote in a statement that “Thomas West”, the country’s special representative for Afghanistan affairs, will travel to Pakistan, Germany and Switzerland in his new round of trips from January 29 to February 4 to discuss Afghanistan.
During these trips, West will consult with US partners, Afghans and humanitarian aid organizations about common interests in Afghanistan, the statement added.
The US State Department added that the recent orders of the Taliban have faced the international community with extraordinary challenges because we seek to support the people of Afghanistan and protect our interests.
According to the announcement, West will work with his counterparts to develop an integrated regional and international response that demonstrates a collective commitment to Afghan women’s and girls’ rights and access to vital aid.
West has started a new round of his travels when the American magazine “Politico” reported Washington’s confusion in the face of the Taliban’s restrictive measures.
According to the report, the Biden administration is divided on how to respond to the Taliban interim government’s new restrictions on Afghan women’s work and education, as it fears that further punitive measures against the Taliban will further harm Kabul’s limited ties with Washington.
