KABUL – The White House spokesperson has reaffirmed the United States’ dedication to supporting the Afghan nation without bolstering the Taliban.
Addressing questions about how the Biden administration views the challenges faced by millions of girls in Afghanistan due to the Taliban’s restrictions, Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House Press Secretary, emphasized President Biden’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the rights and education of girls, both domestically and globally.
“We’ve been unequivocal in expressing our concerns, particularly regarding girls’ education, to the Taliban. Our message has been consistent and unwavering. We are resolutely focused on offering assistance to the Afghan people without empowering the Taliban,” she explained. “This is an ongoing commitment. The President, as well as his administration, will continue to be crystal clear about this. This determination didn’t start today, nor did it emerge only two years ago. It will undoubtedly persist throughout his tenure,” she added.
Since the closure of secondary schools nearly two years ago, more than 1.1 million girls in Afghanistan have been deprived of educational access. Moreover, female students have been unable to attend classes since last December.
