KABUL – Senior officials from Central Asian nations and top United Nations representatives convened in Tashkent on Tuesday for crucial discussions on regional cooperation, with a strong focus on Afghanistan.
Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister, Bakhtiyor Saidov, shared the news, expressing pride in hosting the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Central Asia, Kaha Imnadze, and Roza Otunbayeva, the Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). Delegates from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan also attended the pivotal meeting.
“Central Asia remains the top priority in Uzbekistan’s foreign policy,” Saidov stated in a post on X, emphasizing efforts to enhance political dialogue, economic integration, environmental cooperation, transport connectivity, and people-to-people ties.
Spotlight on Afghanistan
The talks, coordinated by Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, centered on pressing issues, including strengthening trade and transport links, fostering economic partnerships, and addressing shared challenges in the region.
Participants underscored the urgency of unified strategies to tackle Afghanistan’s evolving political and economic conditions, emphasizing its impact on regional stability and growth.
