KABUL: Members of parliament are worried about the security in the provinces of Ghor, Ghazni and Badghis, calling on the government to be serious in ensuring security.
They claimed on Monday that armed opposition groups have recently received modern and sophisticated weapons in these three provinces and have inflicted casualties to civilians and security forces.
“Roads to several districts in Ghor, Badghis and Ghazni provinces have been blocked due to insecurity and some of districts are controlled by opposition groups. We demand the government and security sector to take serious measures for rescuing people and solving their problems,” said Amir Khan Yar, a member of parliament.
“Security situation is worse in Ghor province especially in the districts of Pasaband and Charsada, where residents are in economic sanction,” lawmaker Keramuddin Rezazada said, adding that the situation in the neighboring province of Badghis was similar. He warned against the fall of the province within a couple of months.
Another lawmaker, Ali Akbar Qasemi, said that government was not serious in ensuring security in Ghazni province and several districts were surrounded by the opposition groups.
Similar concerns are offered from Helmand, Jawzjan, Faryab and Kunduz provinces.
Defense Ministry says of the ongoing operations in the provinces under security threats. “We have launched vast operations that Badghis and Ghor provinces are included. We have so far had considerable achievements in pushing enemy back,” said defense ministry spokesman Javed Ghafoor.
