According to the Washington Post, dozens of advanced weapons made in the United States—originally handed over to former Afghan security forces of Afghanistan during the American military presence—are now in the hands of opponents of the Pakistani government. This comes despite the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan consistently denying such claims.
The report mentions that an M4A1 Carbine rifle manufactured by Colt in the state of Connecticut and shipped to Afghanistan in January 2018 was discovered last month after a Baloch Liberation Forces attack on a passenger train in Pakistan.
However, U.S. officials have stated that over $7 billion worth of American equipment remains in Afghanistan.
In a statement in January 2025, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared that the presence of advanced American weapons in Pakistan is “a deeply concerning issue for national security.”
U.S. President Donald Trump recently said that his country wants to recover the weapons left behind in Afghanistan.
In response to Trump’s remarks, Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, stated that the weapons left by the U.S. are spoils of war and will not be returned.
“These weapons now belong to Afghanistan. No one can take them from us”, Mujahid added
Earlier, Hamidullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, addressed Pakistan’s concerns by saying that all weapons and ammunition in Afghanistan are secure, and no one is allowed to misuse them.
