KABUL — Taliban’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, sent a powerful message on Saturday, declaring that Afghanistan possesses fighters as formidable as an “atomic bomb.” His remarks, made at a graduation ceremony in Kabul’s Loya Jirga hall, were aimed at neighboring countries, particularly Pakistan, signaling that Afghanistan’s military capabilities have evolved significantly.
“Today, you will have fast planes and drones. You will have weapons that the world will fear you,” Stanikzai said, asserting that Afghanistan is no longer dependent on outdated weaponry. He emphasized that historic figures like Ahmad, Mahmud, Ghaznavi, and Abdali are not only names of rockets but symbols of the fighters within Afghanistan, each of whom can carry the destructive force of an atomic bomb.
The speech was seen as a clear warning to regional powers, particularly after Pakistan’s airstrikes in Afghanistan’s Paktika province last month, which resulted in heavy casualties. In retaliation, Afghanistan targeted several sites in Pakistan. Stanikzai further added that if Afghanistan sent “five sons of Mahmud, Abdali, or Babur” across the border, no one would be able to stop them, not even in the Indian Ocean.
In addition to military strength, Stanikzai stressed the importance of economic independence for Afghanistan, declaring that a poor nation is a slave to foreign powers. “If we were economically self-reliant, we would tell everyone that we will not accept any of your conditions,” he said, urging the country to break free from foreign dependence.
Stanikzai’s speech painted a vision of a self-sufficient and powerful Afghanistan, capable of defending its sovereignty and asserting its place in the world.
