In embattled regions, 3.5m children deprived of education and 1,000 schools still closed
By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Saturday during inauguration of new educational year said that 6,000 school buildings will be erected within the next two years in order to meet the increasing demands for education all across the country.
President said that $200 million has been earmarked for the mega project. He revealed that still half of schools have no buildings, 3.5 million children deprived of education, and at least 1,000 schools have been closed thus far.
He stated that 18,000 vacant posts will be announced in education sector this year as well as he urged officials to improve women’s role in the education ministry’s leadership.
Expressing deepest grievance over corruption in educational system, he insisted that teacher posts and hiring must be followed through administrative reforms commission.
He said that corruption and bribery is not anymore acceptable in education sector.
In the next two years a vocational school will be built in each province in order to the students after graduation directly enter to the work market, he added.
He said that we ordered to the Ministry of Urban and Development to make 100 schools, which are a kind of school, can be built within two weeks and this program will be mostly focused over areas affected during conflict.
Pointing to land distribution and salary scale system, President Ghani pledges to the teacher to address the issues in near future.
President asked the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to focus over health condition of schools as well as urged Ministry of Finance (MoF) to a loan fund for teachers. He said that those who are threat for education will be seriously punished. President called on all people and Ulema to support education system in order to progress well in the aspect.
