AT-KABUL: President Ashraf Ghani ordered Tuesday to fulfill a recent religious edict verdict of the religious scholars based on which the current war and suicide attacks are declared forbidden in Islam.
Thousands of clerics gathered Monday in Kabul city to denounce the attacks carried out by the armed groups. The verdict was welcomed by government officials.
In a video message, the president called the clerics’ gathering positive and effective and called on the Taliban to join peace process and negotiations.
Ghani who also holds the commander-in-chief position, emphasized that the religious scholars’ viewpoints should be fulfilled by the government.
“I would like to instruct all government organs to prepare action plans for implementing the clerics’ verdict,” Ghani said.
The clerics said that 99 per cent of Afghanistan’s population is Muslims, so jihad is not justified in the Islamic country by any mean.
The gathering was responded by a bombing as a suicide attacker blew himself up at the entrance of the Polytechnic University where the gathering was held just at the end of the gathering. The attack killed 14 people including seven clerics.
President Ghani, condemned the bombing as “attack on the Islamic values” that is a big crime.
“Once again, I am calling on the armed Afghan Taliban that peace is a divine order, peace is the basic demand of our great Muslim nation. Respecting this, choose the peaceful way via the Afghan-led talks and join the reconstruction process of the country instead of ruining it,” the president said in his message.
