AT News Report-KABUL: The recent statement for handing over some areas to the Taliban insurgent is signifying the disintegration of Afghanistan, a number of Afghan influential figures expressed their concern over the scheme purposed by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the leader of Hezb-e-Islami political party.
Previously, Hekmatyar suggested the handover of some regions to the Taliban as “safe zones”, even he claimed that President Ashraf Ghani was also agreed with this idea.
Former Vice President, Mohammad Youns Qanooni termed likely handover of some parts of the country to the Taliban as ‘disintegration of Afghanistan’.
“If a corner of this common land is handed over to someone under any reason, it will mean the fragmentation of Afghanistan, the disintegration of Afghanistan and the success of the conspiracy which the enemies of Afghanistan have been looking for over the years,” Qanooni told participants gathered to commemorate the seventh death anniversary of former Kunduz Police Chief, Abdul Rahman Sayedkhaili in Parwan province.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah called for unity and safeguard of Afghanistan’s territorial integrity as he addressed the event.
“Our expectation from those who join peace is to focus on unity among the people of Afghanistan in their words and actions. They must think about the unity of Afghans instead of thinking about division among the people of Afghanistan,” said Abdullah.
However, the former Interior Minister, Mohammad Omer Daudzai talked about efforts which is on full swing to extend the tenure of the National Unity Government. “There is credible evidence in this regard.”
“We will not allow them (government leaders) to stay even for one day once their five-year term is completed,” Daudzai warned.
Reacting over the statement, a Member of Parliament, Iqbal Safai said that handing over some territories of the country to the Taliban is the idea of Pakistan’s Intelligence Agency (ISI). “We firmly stand against this conspiracy.”
“This is an outside plane; the individual who wants to implement this plan is a foreign agent,” he said.
However, the Presidential Palace has brushed aside the report of handing some areas to the Taliban as part of government’s peace offer to the group.
“Remarks about handover of particular geography (to the Taliban) are not true,” Dawa Khan Minapal, Deputy Spokesman for President Ashraf Ghani, told TOLOnews.
