Abdul Zuhoor Qayomi-KABUL: The Wolesi Jirga (WJ) or Lower House of the Parliament on Wednesday approved the ‘Officials Salaries Law’.
The law contains two chapters and nine articles.
Deputy Chairman of the Financial and Budget Committee (FBC) of the Wolesi Jirga, Muhamamd Azem Museni, told media that the law has determined the salaries of high-ranking officials, including Executive Chief Officer (CEO) and his deputies, deputy ministers, general directors and governors.
He said that based on the law the lowest salary is Afs81,250 and the highest one is Afs276,250, which is considered to be the salary of the CEO.
Chief of the FBC, Ameer Khan Yar, said that the Wolesi Jirga had to reduced the amount of salaries suggested by the government due to lack of budget. He said that ‘Officials Salaries Law’ would be included in the coming fiscal year’s budget.
Responding to a question asked by the lawmakers, Yar said that Ministry of Finance had already outlined financial sources to meet these salaries.
It is worth mentioning that salaries of the top government officials including President, ministers, lawmakers, members of the provincial councils, Chief Justice and Chief of the Attorney General Office had already approved.
