Abdul Zuhoor Qayomi-KABUL: The Wolesi Jirga on Saturday asked the government to review its anti-militants operations in northern Kunduz province.
The lawmakers criticized clearance operations of Afghan security forces in Kunduz and said that the offensive should be properly managed.
They voiced their deep concerns over current security situation in the province and said that the ongoing military operations against militants cannot bring peace to the province.
The Wolesi Jirga also decided to appoint a parliamentary delegation to probe fall of Kunduz city to the Taliban.
Internal Security Committee (ISC) of the Wolesi Jirga said that security forces after 12 days operations failed to weed the militants out of Kunduz province. It said that lack of coordination among security forces is one of the big challenge in this regard. It said that the operations should be conducted based on credible intelligence information.
In the meantime, Abdul Wadood Paiman, an MP from Kunduz, said that the Taliban are hiding in civilian houses.
Speaker of the Wolesi Jirga, Abdul Rauf Ebrahemi, called on President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah to review the military operations against militants in Kunduz.
A delegation comprised of lawmakers from different provinces and members of ISC and Defense Committee of the Wolesi Jirga will be assigned to investigate the reasons behind fall of Kunduz city to the Taliban militants.
This comes at a time that security forces said that they have cleared many areas of the Taliban insurgents and have killed and detained hundreds of rebels in their military offensives in Kunduz.
