AT-KABUL: A married woman eloping with her lover was reportedly shot dead by her relatives in western Ghor province, local official said Tuesday.
The woman identified as Aziz Gul, was shot dead Monday night after being caught eloping with a man, source said.
Moreover, local officials said that Gul was arrested by police and handed over to her family, who was later shot dead by her husband’s relatives, according to the source.
However, no one has been so far detained in connection of her killing.
This is not first incident in its nature, as earlier several women had been killed in eloping charges in different parts of the country.
Last year, a young woman was stoned to death by the Taliban in western zone of Afghanistan.
The women was named Rokhshana was stoned after she was caught eloping with a man in the same province, provincial police sources said in that time. She eloped after she was forced to marry to a man against her will. Forced marriage is a common issue in Afghanistan. There are several cases around the country that forced marriages were the core reason behind eloping of woman even after marriage.
